Coloring Books

As an artist, I am drawn to the pop style. I feel that, along with the immediacy and boldness that characterizes it, pop art also draws one into the under-layer of the piece and calls for philosophical thinking. When given the theme of art during childhood, I instantly thought of coloring books, which I spent much of my time with as a child. I wanted to bring in the elements of the immediacy and simple bold lines of the pop style, but have the subject matter deal with current social issues. The Coloring Book series strives to be something that young and old alike might be drawn to for the surface forms or nostalgic reasons, but then will take the time to reflect on the subjects that are present.
